Mary was born in Clapham, London to William and Eileen Jack and was the eldest of five daughters. She was a strong vibrant woman who enjoyed 90 years of good health but her 91st year was a challenge for such a robust lady. After a brief illness, Mary passed away peacefully at VGH. Right to her last day Mary was sharp, poised and maintained a good sense of humour.

Mary married her husband Jimmy in 1948 and five children followed over a span of eighteen years. Her mission was certainly family focused and she was the glue that bonded the McPhie family. Mary enjoyed nothing more than entertaining her family, friends and neighbours. Throughout Mary’s life she was always strong, proud, giving and resilient.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Jimmy (1974 at the age of 53) and also by her sisters Eileen and Sheila. Due to the early death of Jimmy, Mary virtually raised her children single handedly and re-entered the workforce to provide for her family. Mary was never one to complain and was always a positive force for those around her.

Mary is survived by her children; Greg (Chris), Marian, Gary (Keren), Alan and Brent, her grandchildren Jennifer (Don) and Alison, sisters Kay and Barbara (Danny) and countless friends. Auntie Mary will be missed by all those in the extended McPhie Clan.

Special thanks to the caring professionals at VGH’s Elder Care Unit 11-A.
