On April 29th, 2020 Mary Frances Lightburn, née Morris, spent the evening listening to Gershwin with her daughter and son in law. Knowing it might be her last night, her daughter read her the story Good Night Moon for old memories, wished her mother goodnight, and carefully kissed each cheek. The tenacious Mary slipped away the next morning, once everyone left her room. She was 69. Mary had three children; raised her two daughters Charlotte & Shelley with a flair for the arts. She will be missed by her grandchildren, especially the youngest of her clan. She will also be missed by her brother David and her beloved friends Bruce, Jeaninne, Ruby, Heid, and her neighbours. She is predeceased by her parents Master Sergeant Lawrence Morris and Willa Morris; as well as her adoring pets Pie and Victor. Mary was a retired nurse and teacher. She wrote stories and painted landscapes. She was a prolific artist during her retirement. She was known for her charisma, dancing talent, wit, charm and infectious laugh. She lived a modest life, teaching herself new languages, volunteering with new immigrants, delivering meals to seniors, and cooking pancake breakfasts at the church. Mary’s family would like to thank the dedicated medical staff at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital.
Due to COVID, Mary’s service will be announced at a later date.
Donations in Mary’s name may be made to Mount Saint Joseph Hospital.
