It is with profound sadness that on Wednesday, October 10th we lost a loving friend and long-time community leader. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Ron, mother Patricia McKay (nee Gallagher), father Gerald McKay, and Rufus her dear dog. Survived by a large extended family and many friends: sister Margaret, niece Cecilia, nephew Patrick, aunt Nancy Weisz-Gallagher, numerous cousins including Moira White and Shelagh Peterson, adopted Ferris family Barb, Peter, Elizabeth, Drew, Lindy and Griffin, and dear friends Tara MacFarlane, Jean and Chris Adshead, Anne and Brent Russell, Dave and Karen Patrick, Barbara Herriot-Miller, as well as all of the Horseshoe Bay community.
Mary was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and, before moving to Vancouver in 1971, she lived in Calgary and Winnipeg with her family.
Mary worked at the Royal Bank and Canada Trust before working at Royal Trust where she met Ron. Mary and Ron married in 1988 and moved to Horseshoe Bay at that time.
Mary was a tireless volunteer. She sat on numerous committees in West Vancouver and was recognized for her efforts by receiving the District of West Vancouver Community Commitment Award in 2016. Mary was a kind and loving friend to all who knew her, including the furry friends of Horseshoe Bay. She will be missed by all.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20th, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church (599 Keith Road, West Vancouver). In lieu of flowers, Mary would appreciate donations to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Kearney Funeral Services (www.kearneyfs.com).
