Marie’s life was suddenly and sadly cut short after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September 2021. She passed away peacefully, at home, on November 12, 2021 with her son and daughter close by. She leaves behind her children Elizabeth and Michael Dusing, granddaughters Camille, Apolline and Nina Crozat, sister Patricia Moss, niece Karen Moss, as well as many dear friends the world round.

Though born in Rossland BC, Marie’s parents moved to Kitsilano when she was 5, after which she never left Vancouver’s West Side aside from living a short time in the US in the early 60s after graduating from Kitsilano High School in 1959. In Baltimore, Marie worked as a lab technician at Johns Hopkins Hospital and then went on to do a brief stint as a stewardess based in Minneapolis, finishing off her time abroad with a European tour before returning home to attend UBC where she received her BA in Classical Studies (1967) and her LLB (1976). She then worked as a real estate agent and finished off her career as a high school ESL teacher. Much of her leisure time was spent at the Jericho Tennis Club, where she was an active member for over 40 years.

After her retirement, Marie enjoyed travelling the globe extensively, mainly on cruises, and was always looking for an opportunity to visit her daughter and granddaughters in France. She enjoyed playing bridge and lunching with her lady friends and was an avid fan of music of all genres, with a particular fondness for country music and old musicals.

She was a sociable woman who will be remembered for her intelligence and vivacity. Her

vast knowledge of a variety of different subjects was impressive and made her a frequent trivia champion on her cruises.

The family wishes to thank Doctor Talbot, Nurse Cheryl and the care providers from BC Coastal Health for making Marie’s life comfortable right up to the end.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Lung Association, the Canadian Breast Cancer Association, the BCSPCA, the Canadian Red Cross and/or the CNIB - BC/Yukon Division are welcomed.

A celebration of Marie’s life will be held in August 2022.
