Maria Ellen Waslen passed away suddenly in her home in Toronto on October 1, 2019 at the age of 67.
Maria was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan on May 3, 1952.
She attended elementary school in St. Augustine School in Humboldt, Saskatchewan and high school at St. Ursula’s Academy in Bruno, Saskatchewan.
After high school Maria entered the University of Saskatchewan and graduated in 1978 with a Doctor of Dentistry. After one year of general Dentistry practice in Saskatoon she began a Fellowship in Endodontics at Boston College University in Boston, Massachusetts. Following the completion of her specialty in 1981, she began her Endodontics Dental practice in Toronto, Ontario.
She received an award for dedicated service from the Ontario Dental Association and spent the last 15 years of her career working and teaching at the University of Toronto, College of Dentistry. She retired after 35 years of practice in 2016. Maria enjoyed travelling with family and friends, in particular the Vatican, Lourdes and the Holy Land. She had a strong faith and relationship with her Catholic Church community at Holy Trinity Church in Toronto.
She was predeceased by her father Leon Waslen and survived by her mother Mary Waslen and brothers Greg (Lori), Basil (Cheryl), Michael, Mark (Paula), Gerard (Beth), and Tom (Tanya) and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, who were all special to her.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 pm in the Chapel at the Garden of Gethsemani cemetery in Surrey B. C.
In lieu of flowers the family gratefully requests donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
