April4,1936–June29,2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Marguerite Eleanor Kohnke, of heart failure at Burnaby Hospital on June 29 in conjunction with a lengthy cancer battle. She is survived by loving husband James Edward, children Michelle (Bill), Yvette (Dave), grandchildren Ryan, Jocelyn, Tyler and Chantel (Chris) along with great-granddaughter Bowen. Marguerite had been in Burnaby Hospital as a cancer patient-where she also worked as a volunteer in the Cancer Clinic for many years. She was originally diagnosed with ovarian cancer some 17 years ago and had been in and out of remission several times in the intervening years. She was active with the BC Cancer Foundation, Ovarian Cancer Canada and a number of other organizations. She aspired to and became an accomplished gardener, chef and hostess. She was an inspiration to many and will be dearly missed. Our thanks and appreciation to long time family doctor, Dr. Walter Rebeyka, Oncologists, Dr. Anna Tinker and Dr. Wendy Lam as well as all the staff at Burnaby Hospital. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, August 20 at 1:30 p.m. at Kearney Columbia - Bowell Chapel, 219 – 6th Street, New Westminster, Reverend Wendy Yacboski officiating. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kearneyfs.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the B.C. Cancer Foundation for research in the field of ovarian cancer.
