Margaret Mary McLaughlin (Woods)
July 19, 1921 – April 24, 2014
Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Francis (Frank) Woods and Edna Philley. Margaret moved to Vancouver in 1923 and she lived there and in North Vancouver her whole life. Predeceased by her husband of 35 years – Robert (Bob) Bernard McLaughlin in 1979 and son Jack in 1999. Survived by 8 children: Margaret Anne, Jim (Liz), Loretta, Joe (Eleanor), Linda (Harvey), Mike (Kathleen), Dan (Rosemary) and Ron; 14 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.
Margaret was a long-time resident of North Vancouver. She moved into the home that Bob built on Wellington Crescent in 1952 with 5 of the children and 4 more arrived over the next 10 years. Her love of the Edgemont Village led her to finally move in 1997 to her condo at Highland House. Margaret was known as the ultimate care giver having raised 9 children and caring for her parents in their later years. For 62 years Margaret was very involved at Holy Trinity Parish where most of the children attended school. She was involved with the CWL, Friendship Club and Sunday choir throughout this time. Many years were also spent commuting to Jericho Hill School for the Deaf and supporting the three deaf children. She was a woman of few words with a ready smile and a knack of always quietly just doing the things that needed to be done. She never sought attention for herself but all that knew her understood they were in the presence of a very special lady. Though we are sad to see her go, we are blessed to have wonderful memories and a glowing example of how a life should be lived. Her good works live on in the many lives she touched – she will be missed.
Prayers will be at 7pm on Tuesday, April 29th and a Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am on Wednesday, April 30th – both at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2725 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver B.C.
