Margaret Angell died in Vancouver on 01 June, 2021. She was the third of eight children born to Peter and Anna Seigo on their farm in Fife Lake, Saskatchewan. She graduated from high school a year early, and left home at 17 to attend Normal School at Regina for teacher training. Despite her meagre salary, she sent money home to help support her family. Her independence and self-reliance were tested throughout her life. While teaching in Golden, BC, she met Arthur Bellamore. They married in 1948 and welcomed their first daughter, Margaret Elaine, in Kimberly, BC in 1949. They later welcomed their second daughter, Susan Claire, in Chilliwack, BC in 1954. Art died tragically young of a heart infection at the age of 32 and Margaret was left to raise her daughters alone. Despite some unsettled years, she ultimately built a fulfilling and vibrant life for herself. She moved to Vancouver in 1966 and taught at Lord Selkirk Annex School, influencing the lives of hundreds of students, until her retirement in 1992. She earned her B.Ed. in 1975.
In retirement, she travelled to Europe, the United States, and across Canada. She was active in the Western Art Circle where her artistic and organizational skills were much appreciated. She was particularly skilled in watercolours, pastels, and flower arranging. She also enjoyed birdwatching, cross-country skiing, and photography.
She was elegant, always beautifully dressed, and had a wickedly sly sense of humour. In terrific health until her 85th year, Margaret spent the last few years living with the aftereffects of a stroke and other health complications. Margaret was well loved and admired by her family and friends and will be sorely missed.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, husband Art Bellamore, husband Doug Angell, daughter Elaine Phillips, brothers Leonard, Alex, Joe, Johnny, and Gerry Seigo, and by sisters Ethel Harms and Anna Beveridge. She was also predeceased by her siblings-in-law Ben and Ethel Dolan, Lloyd and Joyce Williams, Edward Bellamore, Marion Bellamore, Kay Seigo, Grace Seigo, Marie Seigo, Cap Harms, Harry Beveridge, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by sister-in-law Lillian Seigo, daughter Susan Bellamore and her partner Paul, daughter-in-law Tori Phillips, grandson Joel Phillips, and grandson Paul Phillips, his wife Samantha, and their daughters Grace and Alice. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and their families, particularly Lynda and her children Oliver and Emily, Douglas and his wife Kandice, and Steven.
A family gathering will be held at a later date.
