Wright, M. Agneta, passed peacefully from this life on June 20, 2009, in Vancouver at almost 100 years of age, with family at her side. Agneta was predeceased by her parents Dr. Richard and Margaret Coates, brother Jack (Eve), and sister Janet (Charlie); husband Harry; and sons Peter and Raymund. She is lovingly remembered by daughters Josephine (Sister Jo Wright, RSCJ), Cecilia (Stephen) Sothy, and Rosemary (Max) Anderson; sons David (Antoinette) and Jim (Sylvia); daughter-in-law Patricia; grandchildren Joe, Liz, Andrea, Paul, Jennifer, Teresa, Janet, Dean, Trevor, Jasper, John, Quinton, Daniel, Sarah, Matthew, Christopher, Maria, Josephine, Suzanna, and Lisa; great-grandchildren Carmen, Lauren, Carson, and Trinity; and many other family members and friends. Agneta was and is the loving heart of her family.  The love she gave and received extended widely from there and her prolific correspondence was global.
Agneta was born in 1909 in Bridgwater, Somerset, England, her home until a young Lancashire-born engineer, Harry Wright, built a transmission line through Somerset and met a tall, slim actress and field hockey player. They married in August 1933 and would move, with his career, to Scotland and Karachi and back to England. Meanwhile, the family grew to the seven children, ages 2 to 17, that Harry and Agneta brought to Vancouver in 1952. After he semi-retired in 1959, the next seventeen years featured Harry's sculpting and Agneta's painting at their Bowen Island seasonal home on the north shore of Deep Bay. With other islanders, they worked continuously to establish St. Gerard’s church on Bowen. They were a team, but Agneta’s acumen and social nature flourished after Harry's too-soon passing in 1976.  The final third of her life was truly a golden age. Even when she slowed down physically in recent years, her intellect and common sense remained as strong as ever, and she shared great joy and wisdom, especially in her family and church activities.
There will be prayers at St. John the Apostle church, 5457 Trafalgar at 39th, Vancouver, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24.  Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Apostle church, with Monsignor Mark Hagemoen presiding, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 25.  A reception in the parish hall (located below the church) will follow.
