Surrounded by the love of her family, Mum made her journey home on Sunday, March 3, 2024. She was born on Feb 15, 1931 in Kampala, Uganda to the late Maria Rita and Norman Godinho. She was one of 8 children and was predeceased by her siblings Hubert, Carlos (Jane), Raymond, Flora and Leana (Shafiq), as well as her sister-in-law Suzanna.

She will be greatly missed by her sister Helena (late Vincent), brother Norman (Maureen), sister-in-law Maguis (late Luis) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews from around the world. Lydia married in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in 1956 and was predeceased by her beloved husband Caetano Martins (2007). She was loved dearly by her children Charleen (Tim), Sonia (Brendon) and Neil as well as her grandchildren Annalisa, Nicholas, Ian and Daniel. She was the beloved matriarch of our family.

At 93, she was a strong, feisty and loving woman who navigated her senior years with a continued sense of interest and curiosity in the world around her. Our Mum was full of optimism, her cup half full; she expressed the greatest joy for the smallest of things and was able to accept the many changes and hardships in her life with a positive attitude. She accepted each person for who they were and was quick to forgive and forget. She was devoted to her family, a wife, a mother, a caregiver and friend. She was a woman of great faith who was prepared for her journey home. Her warm smile will be missed by all. May the choirs of angels lead her to paradise.

A Funeral Mass will be held on April 7th, 2024, at 2 pm. Immaculate Conception Church, 3745 W. 28th Ave, Vancouver.
