In Loving Memory of Luigina Rota.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Luigina Rota, on January 4, 2025, surrounded by the warmth of her family in Burnaby, BC. 

Luigina lived a remarkable 76 years, filled with unwavering love, tireless dedication, and boundless generosity that touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Born on October 17, 1948, in Carolei, Cosenza, Italy, Luigina’s journey began in her small Italian village. In 1956, as an eight-year-old child, she immigrated to Canada with her family, embracing a new life filled with hope and opportunity. Antonio, her future husband, came to Canada two years later, in 1958, as a young boy with his family.

The two eventually met in Vancouver and fell in love. In 1967, Luigina and Antonio were married, beginning a life together rooted in love, faith, and family. Over the years, they created a warm and welcoming home that became a gathering place for relatives, friends, and anyone in need of comfort, advice or one of Luigina’s lovingly prepared meals.

A devout Catholic, Luigina’s faith was her guiding light, and her kindness and compassion were felt far beyond her immediate family. She lived a life of selflessness and devotion.

Luigina’s family meant everything to her. She leaves behind her adoring husband, Antonio, her loving children, Mario (Silvia), Luigi, Paulo (Crista), Tony Jr., and Giovanni (Lisa), cherished 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and countless family & friends who she loves dearly.

Her legacy will live on in their hearts and in the countless stories, dinner parties, celebrations, poker tourneys, and traditions she passed down.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Augustine’s Church, 2028 W. 7th Avenue, Vancouver, BC. Following the Mass, an entombment service will take place at Ocean View Cemetery, located at 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby BC, where Luigina will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers and donations, we would encourage you to treat your mother to a special day. If your mother is not with us, it can be with any special mom in your life.

 Though we mourn her loss, we also celebrate a life well lived, filled with love and grace.

Rest in peace, dearest Mom—you will remain forever in our hearts.
