It is with great sadness that we share of the passing of Erlinda Monsada De Vera on August 8, 2023, at the age of 54 years after a lengthy battle of cancer. Survived by her sisters, Belen, Maridel, and Medde Grace, her brothers Alfredo, Emer, and Roberto, and her 16-year-old son, Ryan, she was predeceased by her older brother Carlos. Erlinda will be remembered as a dedicated, hardworking, and optimistic person. Erlinda touched many hearts and loved meeting people and sharing a most welcoming personality she greatly enjoyed cooking for everyone she cared for.   Erlinda was born in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines on August 3, 1969, to parents Delfin De Vera and Milagros Monsada. The fifth child in the family, Erlinda progressed through her education in Pangasinan, before going on to study midwifery at Pines City College in Baguio City. She went on to move to Hong Kong in 1994 to work as a caregiver before immigrating to Canada shortly after in 1996, to join her older brother Carlos, here in Vancouver. Paving the way for future siblings, first working as a live-in caregiver for children and later a caregiver for elderly clients, all whom she formed lasting friendships with, Erlinda was later joined in Canada by her siblings Maridel and Jingle.  Throughout all of these years raising her son as a single mother, Linda also got to place an important role as a loving auntie or “Tita” in raising her nieces and nephews.

Linda’s Celebration of Life will take place this Friday, August 25 at 5:00 PM (Pacific Daylight Time, PDT) at Grandview Calvary Baptist Church in Vancouver at 1803 E 1st Ave, 1/2 block east of First and Commercial Avenue, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on the north side of the street.  This is where the in-person celebration of Linda will take place; however, we will also be trying to live stream this event via Zoom (See link below) to give as many of us as possible, living outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, in the Philippines and beyond, the chance to be present with us, and Linda, — may her spirit know our love — during this time of sharing together.

In place of flowers, well wishes, prayers, and donations would be welcome.

  • As gifts in support of Ryan ‘s future (cash, check, or e-transfer) with notes like “for Ryan” or “in memory of Linda,” through either of Erlinda’s Trustees, who are now the legal guardians of Ryan.
