Loucas died peacefully at home after a hard-fought 6 year battle against colon cancer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine, and daughters, Magdalena (John), Marian (Shane) and Eleni (Gord), as well as his beloved grandchildren, Isabel, Luke, Olivia, Abagayle and Riley and son-in-law Jake Burton. Also missing him are his mother Magdalena, brother Vagelis, and sister Eleni, and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. Loucas was predeceased by his father Costas.
Loucas was born in Agios Georgios, Evias, Greece, and came to Canada in 1968 after a career with the Greek merchant marine. He married in New Westminster where he raised his family and resided until his passing. He started UBC Pizza in the 1970's which he operated for over 25 years. Subsequently Loucas owned and operated Cristos Greek Taverna in Burnaby. He was an avid Canucks fan and rarely missed a game. His home was always a welcome gathering place for family and friends.
The family sincerely thanks Dr. Patrick Mallette, Dr. Sasha Smiljanic and the caring team at Lions Gate Hospital Cancer clinic as well as Dr. Javer and the wonderful Fraser Health palliative care team for their tireless effort in making Loucas comfortable in his last days. Thank you also to Dr. Isis van Loon for her special care and support.
The funeral will be held at Columbia Bowell Chapel Thursday March 3, 10:00 am with visitation preceding Wednesday March 2, 6-8 pm.
