Last day of travel adventure to Gujarat, India, January 3rd , 2025.
“There is a reason this is the least travelled area of India.” Marie’s comment
Marie left us peacefully on March 19th , 2025.
Born March 29th , 1947, in Powel River, B.C. to Slim and Margaret Davidson. Marie is the third of their six daughters.
In 1950, 3-year-old Marie and her family moved to Prince Rupert where wonderful memories were forged, an imagination grew, and Marie began to recognize what a special person she truly was. At age nine the family moved again to North Vancouver and finally settled in Burnaby when Marie was eleven and that is when the real fun began.
She is survived by her five fabulous powerhouse sisters and their loving, supportive families, Diana Davidson (Mark Battersby), their six children and eight grandchildren, Gail Davison, her four children and three grandchildren, Karen Peterson, her two children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Brenda Broughton (Michael Broughton), their three children and eight grandchildren, Susan Langhorst (Roy Langhorst) their two grandchildren; and predeceased by their son. Marie said she always felt so very lucky, from a young age, that she in fact had the best family! Marie and her sisters are very close and supportive of each other, spending lots of time together maintaining a tight sisterhood bond.
Like a magnet in her adolescence, she attracted a plethora of girlfriends, they stayed connected all of her life. If Marie was in good company, she had a smile in her heart. She was an active socialite! She had a busy calendar full of visits, dinners, movies, game nights, walks, coffee dates, and weekend ventures and of course travel.
Marie is survived by her intensely loved little family including her only child, Simone Epplette, who she worked with for 35 years and they made an amazing team in all things from work to love to friendship to care, (son-in-law, Jonn Epplette, who she absolutely adored and took under her wing), her special three grandchildren, Chelsey Tunstall (Cody Tunstall), Joel Epplette (Olivia Edwards) and Hailey Epplette, whom she spent countless time with from the moment they were born, she was a huge part up their lives, moulding them into the young adults that they are today, great grandchildren Kingston, whose antics brought her so much joy and baby girl, whom she wished she could meet in person, due July 2025. Also survived by a fabulous (her words) ex-husband, Simone’s dad, Jeroen Vermeulen (Renee Vermeulen) Marie was predeceased by her loving husband, Geoffrey Brian Gould, ten years ago on March 24, 2015. They laughed, they loved, they travelled, they lived life fully.
Marie had a deep passion for travel, where she made more friends. After Geoff passed, she travelled alone or with girlfriends and picked up many more friends along the way. It isn’t an exaggeration to say Marie had a way of putting people at ease and bringing out the best in them with her kindness, generosity and humour.
Some fifty years ago, Marie, a strong minded intelligent young woman started a successful CPA firm called The L.M. Vermeulen Group Inc. in Tsawwassen. She loved her work, the people she worked with and her clients - every single day of it. She sold the firm and retired December 31, 2023.
In her final days she blessed us with lots of quality time including lots and lots of laughs, love and hugs, creating wonderful memories. She was true to herself right to the end. Marie suffered from optimism, her exact words. Her positivity was a complete blessing to those that cared for her.
