Lloyd passed away peacefully on February 4th with family at his side. Lloyd will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years Betty; daughters Patricia (Ross), Barbara (Peter), and Katherine (Don); grandsons James, Andrew, Tom, and Robert; nephew Jim; and nieces Arlene, Diane, and Judy.
Born in Vancouver but raised in New Westminster, he attended New Westminster Tech and then joined his father in the family typewriter business (Reyklin Office Equipment). Lloyd continued to restore antique typewriters for family and friends long after he retired 55 years later.
Lloyd loved and excelled in all sports, setting high school records in track and field and then competing in major men’s softball, table tennis, bowling, and horseshoes. Lloyd participated in sports all of his life, but one of his greatest joys was watching his daughters and grandsons play sports, and he did so as often as possible. He even coached his daughters in women’s fastpitch and later joined them on a mixed slo-pitch team as their pitcher into his 70s. Whatever the sport or game, Lloyd thrived on the competition.
Lloyd was an avid fisherman and took advantage of any opportunity he had to fish the local rivers and lakes with family and friends. Lloyd was a self-taught cabin and boat builder. His early interest in boatbuilding developed into a passion for wood canvas canoes and, ultimately, their restoration. Lloyd spent many hours meticulously restoring countless canoes and was a member of the Northwest Chapter of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association.
Music was also a big part of Lloyd’s life, playing both the piano and guitar equally well.
A member of the Totem Classic Thunderbird Club of BC, Lloyd started collecting cars early and only recently parted with his favourite ’55 T-Bird.
Lloyd loved spending time with his family and friends, whether it was fishing, boating, riding motorcycles, playing games or sports, or teaching his family and friends the intricacies of a sport or skill they were interested in. As busy as his life was, he always took time for others.
Lloyd had a very full and active life right into his 90s. He lived his life with integrity, kindness, and empathy. Whether it was in his business dealings, on the playing field, or with his family and friends, Lloyd was honest, fair, and generous. His family, friends, and business acquaintances all benefited by having him in their lives.
The family would like to thank the staff at New Vista ECH, especially the 4th floor staff for their exceptional care and kindness during his last year of life.
Flowers gratefully declined and no service by request. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to share memories with the family please email: the.reyklins@shaw.ca
