It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother Ligaya, after a brief illness.  Predeceased by her loving husband Leonardo, her joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of her children Nita, Auring (son-in-law Abe), Linda, Gie, Sr. Pinky, FSP, Arman (daughter-in-law Anna), and Emie; her sister Dely (brother-in-law Pedring) and sisters-in-law Lita and Nene; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ligaya was born on December 24, 1924 in Cavite, Philippines.  Having lived a long life filled with love and laughter, she passed away at the age of 89 on December 23, 2014 in Burnaby General Hospital.  Having widowed young, she single-handedly raised her seven children.  Through all those years of supporting her family on her own, she was a constant pillar of strength for her loved ones, providing care and support from near and abroad.

Ligaya also had a large part in raising her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Nanay”.  Her joy was to spend time with them, and to hear their voices.  Family togetherness was important to her and she was always full of life in every gathering.

Ligaya loved to see the wonders of the world, and had travelled to many places.  After moving to Canada, she lived in various cities such as Victoria, Winnipeg, Inuvik in Northwest Territories, until she settled in Burnaby, British Columbia.  Travelling with her children and grandchildren by her side, she has had many adventures across Canada, the Philippines, across the USA including Alaska and Hawaii, and in Europe.

Her heart overflowed with love and generosity, and she always welcomed friends and family into her home with plenty of delicious food.  She loved to cook and shared plenty of stories and laughter over many meals.

Ligaya left behind a legacy of strong family values, and will always be lovingly remembered for her strength, her compassion, and her smile.
