Louise Marie Levasseur, 98, of Burnaby, BC, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023 at the Nicola Lodge, Port Coquitlam, BC.
Born October 30, 1924, Carlton SK. The daughter of David Francois LaRiviere and Marie Louise Eugenie Pajot, Louise moved to Vancouver and helped care for her mother until her passing in 1965.
Louise had a flare for fashion. She loved to wear colourful clothes, and brightly coloured scarves and always wore her signature red lipstick. She liked to travel, and would reminisce about her trips to Rome, Paris, Alaska, California, and a variety of other cities.
Louise demonstrated her ability to show unconditional love and compassion to her husband of 49 years, Calixte Ubalde Omer Levasseur (Cal); a wonderful man who suffered from schizophrenia. Louise persevered and was resilient through times when many would have given up. Louise was a devoted Catholic, wife, and mother. As a full-time mother of two boys, her patience, love, humility, and integrity, inspired them to become two men with many of the same attributes.
Louise loved to sing and dance. Her passion was to perform on stage. She sang with Douglas College Choral Singers, Amabills Singers, Century House Singers, Catholic Women’s League, churches of different denominations and any group that was available. She also sang solo and danced with the Haney Merry Makers and other groups. She sang at many festivals, senior homes and during Pope John Paul II’s visit to Vancouver in 1984.
Louise loved to volunteer at her parish and wherever she was needed. She always had a smile on her face and an open ear for anyone.
The family of Louise wish to thank the great staff at the Nicola Lodge in Port Coquitlam. Predeceased by her husband in 2012. Mom will be forever missed by her sons Rod and Don (Brenda) and Grandchildren: Austin, Emily, Jade, Chloe, and Douglas, and remaining extended family and friends.
