Just shy of his 89th birthday, Leo passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Tuesday February 19th.

He was born in Kamloops, BC to Lewis and Mary (English) Smyth and grew up with two siblings Mary (Gene) Toner and Neil (Betty) Smyth.  The family moved to Vancouver during his teen years where Leo attended Vancouver College High School. During his faithful participation in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) many life-long friendships were made, especially one with Phyllis Mary Cianci who became his beloved wife of 50 years.  After ten years apart, Leo and Phyllis are reunited in heaven.

Leo was a well-respected business man who was dedicated to serving his customers at Elm Park Service for over 30 years.  He was the epitome of customer service for those who had the good fortune to visit his neighbourhood Chevron station in Kerrisdale.  He cherished time with family, enjoyed (re) telling stories of his youth, fishing with the boys, and keeping the family close skiing together in the early days of Whistler, BC.

He will be remembered for his kind eyes, bright smile, warm heart, firm handshake and his innate ability to touch the hearts of those whom he met. Leo led by example with his deep love of friends, family and faith.

Leo is survived by his children Leo (Jane), Mary (John), Ann (Cliff), Patti, Pete, Cathy (David).  He is loved by his grandchildren Leo Michael (Emily), Matthew, Patrick, Christina (Chris), Catherine (Gavin), Connor, Georgia, Julia, Tomas, Kennedy, Beatrice, Henry and his great-grandson Mason.

A special thank you to Beth and Merly for their care of Dad over the past year, keeping him in his home, walking to church and getting into his garden.  Also, thank you to the Cardiac Care and Palliative Care staff at Vancouver General Hospital for their expertise, compassion, and support in his passing.

Prayers will be offered on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 7pm at Immaculate Conception Parish, 3778 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver BC, followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 2nd at 11am.
