Laurette (Laurie) left this earth on February 9, 2021 after a long struggle with cancer. Her family is grateful that she is now without pain and at peace.
Laurie came into the world on May 12, 1943 the third of eight children born to Maurice and Jeannette Pujo. She spent her childhood in Saint-Boniface where, by her own account, she was a bit of a handful.
In time she became a hairdresser then worked as a nurse’s aide with special needs children and the elderly.
Laurie was a passionate gardener, a self-taught artist and she loved to sing, participating in church and other choirs in Manitoba and Vancouver.
Laurie lived for over twenty years in St. Adolphe, Manitoba with her late husband Thomas Henderson where she was very active in the community and made many friends.
In 2007, Laurie fulfilled a lifelong dream by moving to Vancouver where she met Tod Moore whom she married in 2009. With Tod she had many happy years of volunteering, travelling and as she put it “living the life of Riley”. Sadly, Tod’s health failed in the last years and he passed away in September 2020.
Laurie was predeceased by her parents and her dear brother Donald. Left to mourn her passing are her children Monique Shorten and her children Kyle and Tessa, Paul Henderson (Christine) and their sons Kelsey and Ethan, David Henderson (Angie), and her stepson Stephen. She also leaves behind siblings Paul Pujo (Mary-Irene), Aline Pujo, Roger Pujo (Edith), Valerie Pujo, Louise Pujo (Tim) Marc Pujo, sister-in-law LaRay Pujo, many nieces and nephews, and her brother-in-law Ron Moore.
We will remember Laurie for her big heart, her easy laugh and her courage.
There will be no service in Vancouver.
When we are allowed to gather again, family and friends will be invited to a celebration of Laurie’s life to be held in Manitoba.
