Kwok Yuk Yau 邱国鋈, a distinguished educator and passionate artist, passed away on March 23, 2025, in Vancouver, Canada, at the age of 88. Born on June 17, 1936, in Hong Kong, he dedicated his life to the field of education, making significant contributions as a teacher and principal in several esteemed institutions.
Kwok's academic journey began at the University of Hong Kong, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1962, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 1963, and a Master of Arts in 1971. His commitment to education was evident throughout his career, which included teaching positions at St. Gabriel's School and St. Catherine's School in Hong Kong. He later took on the role of Principal at Wong Fung Ling College, where he cultivated an environment of learning and mentorship.
In 1992, Kwok retired and migrated to Vancouver, where he continued to engage with his artistic interests. He was particularly passionate about writing poems and Chinese painting, undertaking studies under the guidance of renowned artists such as Prof. Chao Shao-An 赵少昂 and Yang Shen-Sun 杨善深 . His dedication to the arts reflected a lifelong pursuit of creativity and expression.
Kwok Yuk Yau 邱国鋈 is predeceased of his parents , Yau Wing Lau 邱永鎏 , mother, Chan Kin Ho 陈健好 and wife Chan Lai Ching 陈丽贞 . He was married in 1964, and unfortunately they divorced in 1995, and Lai Ching pass on in 2014. He was the third child among nine siblings. His surviving siblings include Yau Yuen Ling 邱婉铃 , married to Ho Sai Kong 何世光 ; Johnson Yau 邱国栋 , married to Rosa Chiu; Ann Yau 邱婉贞 , married to Stephen Tang 邓汉泉 ; and Susan Shih 邱婉芬, married to Paul Shih 施学全 . Additionally, Kwok is survived by many nephews and nieces who will remember him fondly.
Kwok Yuk Yau's legacy as an educator and artist will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. His impact on the lives of his students and his dedication to the arts exemplify a life well-lived, marked by passion, creativity, and a commitment to nurturing the next generation.
