Only three months away from her 93rd birthday, surrounded by loved ones, Kathleen Ann Sigurdson, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, slipped peacefully from this world into the next on November 1st, 2017, at Queens Park Care Centre, New Westminster, BC. Kathleen is survived by her children, Bev Wootton (Barry), Marilyn Hayes (Les), Carolyn Sousa, Joni Simpson (Brian), Jimmy Sigurdson, and her grandchildren, Kathy, Maureen, Brian, Wendy, Gerry, Gord, Grant, Greig, Leslie, Lorna, Cindy, Rick, Miranda, Laura, and Jordan, as well as her many great grandchildren. Predeceased by her beloved mother, Emma J. Steele, brother Bill Ross, husbands, John Watt and Lydur Sigurdson, and sons, Bill Watt and Bob Sigurdson. Though born in Ocean Falls and raised in Vancouver, Mom lived most of her life in New Westminster. She loved the city and never missed a chance to share with others how her mother had been born in New Westminster in 1901. Mom had a deep love for her family and was always the first to offer help. For approximately twenty years, she was an active member of the Salvation Army (Harbour Light, Vancouver), which led to her work as a Corrections Officer in Burnaby. Mom's generous spirit will be remembered for her compassion and caring ways, always putting others before herself. Mom loved music all her life (especially gospel and country), and she loved to sing. Having been brought up in difficult times (the Great Depression and World War II), she appreciated the simpler things in life. Mom was widowed twice and faced the challenge twice of raising a young family on her own. Mom learned to swim at English Bay at a very young age and carried that love for swimming throughout her life. She loved the tv show Jeopardy, playing Scrabble, and did a crossword puzzle every day. Mom loved people and people-watching and those who knew her appreciated her great sense of humor. While she will be greatly missed, we rejoice knowing that she is with her loved ones and her Lord. We extend our deepest gratitude to the caring staff at Queen's Park Care Centre for the above and beyond compassion showed to mom while she was there. Service to be held Friday, November 10, at 10:00 am at Columbia-Bowell Funeral Chapel, 219 6th Street, New Westminster, BC.
