During the early evening of May 3rd at Peace Arch Hospital, Karl H. Harck passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of his family. During the past year Karl was courageous as he faced the daily struggles as a result of A.L.S. (a fatal motor neuron disease). Already he is sorely missed by his wife Kathleen, daughter Sharon (Scott) Evans and son Freddie, and children Kevin (Melanie), Kendra (Nicholas), and Kent (Wendy), as well as their eight saddened grandchildren.
Karl was born in Wermigerode, Germany on May 9 1942, and immigrated to Canada 15 years later. He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Ilse and his brother Jurgen. Karl enlisted in the Royal Canadian army in 1960 and served his adopted country with distinction, as a proud member of the "Princess Pats" both here and abroad until 1967.
Following this, Karl embarked on a career in real estate and recently retired from his job as a highly respected Property Valuator, consulting for “Campbell and Pound Ltd”. Numerous Real Estate Associations and his fellow appraisers respected him for his candour, high code of ethics, and forthright representation of his clients.
Karl and Kathleen married in May, 2000, and enjoyed cycling, kayaking, and traveling -- both here & abroad -- but mostly they delighted in the family interaction with their kids and grandkids.
Karl’s considerate, pragmatic, and spiritual nature enriched Kathleen’s life in so many ways; always loving her unconditionally. In his unique way with others, Karl enriched his family immeasurably and forever.
A special thank you to the Fraser Health Care team, the nurses of Peace Arch Hospital, Jeff Fergusen OT, and especially to Dr.A. Maybie, whose unbelievable compassion and respect for Karl, helped the family immensely in their time of sorrow.
Join the family in a tribute to Karl at his Mass of Christian Burial which will be held Tues. May 12th at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Church in Crescent Beach, Surrey.
