On August 5th, 2015,  Julie passed away peacefully at the UBC Purdy Pavillon.

She was born in Maroubra (Sydney), Australia, the eighth and youngest child of the late John and Julia Lace.
Mother of Lisa (Oliver) Young and Sharon (Matthew) Sauder and the proud grandmother of Madeline, Alexandra, Lucy, Theodore, William, Nicolaus and Charlotte.

Julie is also survived by her sister Joan and brother Raymond both of Australia. She was a graduate of the Australian National Art School in Sydney. Her work in the Human Potential Movement with people such as
Jean Huston, led her to use her creative talents in helping others in achieving self
understanding. She obtained a Masters Degree in Art Therapy in 1982. She pioneered work
with the criminally insane at the Forensic Psychiatric Institute in Coquitlam and also at the
Federal Prison in Abbotsford. Julie was a founding member of the BC Art Therapy Association,
as well as the founding President of the Australian National Art Therapy Association. She helped
establish the first Masters in Art Therapy in Australia at the University of Western Sydney and
taught in this program.

Julie had a full and happy life both in Canada and Australia with life long friends in both countries.

Her daughters are forever grateful for the loving care and heart felt compassion shown by the staff of Purdy 2. Also a special thank you to her dearest friend Suzan and musical therapist Susan, as your dedication to Julie means the world to her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Unitarian Church in Vancouver (49th and Oak) - a place
where she found acceptance and a sense of community - at 4:00 pm Wednesday, August 19th, 2015.
