JOSEPH FIFIK

Joe was born in Porac, Slovakia and immigrated to Canada in 1937. He was a longtime employee of CP Rail whose career began in Moose Jaw, SK with transfers to Winnipeg, MB and to Montreal, QC. Upon retirement in 1987, Joe relocated to South Surrey, BC. Joe was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Surrey as well as a dedicated member of Star of the Sea Parish. Joe leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 65 years, Catherine, and three children – Barbara (Rob) of Winnipeg, MB, Robert (Elizabeth, deceased) of Coquitlam, and Gail (Tony) of Winnipeg, MB. He also leaves to remember him the grandchildren whom he loved – Sara (Steve), Erin (Taylor), Matthew, Ryan, Rachel, Thomas and Zachary; and one great grandchild Levi. Joe will be missed by his brother-in-law Fred (Frances) and sister-in-law Pat (Bill, predeceased); he was predeceased by his only sister Mary (John, deceased). He leaves many nieces and nephews to remember him. He will also be remembered by his cousin John (Regina). A special thank you to all of the staff at Peace Arch Hospital for the kindness and care shown to Joe in his final days. We will honour Joe’s life with a Mass of Christian Burial at Good Shepherd Church, 2250-150th Street in South Surrey on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11 am. Prayers will be held the evening of Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 7:30 pm at Good Shepherd Church. Cremation and private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Kidney Foundation or Covenant House Vancouver.
