We are sad to announce the passing of John Boyd Paterson, aka “Gramps” to many. Gramps left us early on Tuesday morning June 28, 2016 at the age of 77. He loved his last few years living in Port Moody near his daughter and son and 5 grandchildren. He watchedalotoftheirsportsincludingsoccer, hockey, taekwondo and lacrosse. He was always good for a dinner at the kids’ houses. John was born in Nipiwan, Saskatchewan on September 25, 1938. He was a proud member of the Applied Science Technologists (ASTTBC) after having taken his diploma in civil engineering technology. He worked at the Grand Rapids dam in Manitoba. He then headed out west to work for BC Hydro where he met his wife Mary Catherine Clay. They moved to Hudson’s Hope to work on the Bennett Dam job. They got married and raised their children Moira and Ian in Lynn Valley. John retired from BC Hydroandtookupgolfingasamemberofthe Peace Portal golf course and was active with the Senior Men’s Lacrosse Burnaby Lakers TeamastheTeamManager.Grampslovedto get out and play golf, and watch sports – especially watching his kids and grandchildren play. Gramps will be remembered as a genuine people person. He loved to talk with people and always connected easily with his sense of humour and the gentle way about him. John was predeceased by his wife Mary Catherine. John is survived by his daughter Moira(Rick), son Ian (Tanya), and grandchildren Lauryn, Olivia, Evan, Michela, and Norah.
