John was born on Nov 07, 1927, in New Westminster, BC to Gertrude (Rand) and Keith Campbell Macgowan. Third child, after Kenneth Owen and Barbara Rand (Macgowan) Rowell. The three kids each lived past 94! He was always fond of maintaining his links to the Royal City, springing from Duke of Connaught High, summer and early jobs (Pacific Coast Terminals, Westminster Shook Mills, Star Shipyards, BC Packers), and UBC class of 1950. He spent his family raising years in Massey Heights and at Tsawwassen Beach. He had the best basement woodworking shop in the area, drawing lots of neighbours with odd jobs and creating his own wonders. His 30-year career at Seaboard Lumber took him to live in London in 1963 and travel around the world selling plywood afterward. He eventually moved to Fairview Slopes, Vancouver, but he never really left New West, keeping his professional and social links. John passed away on July 24, 2022 at St. Jude’s Anglican Home in Vancouver. He was predeceased by his first wife (Mary Grace), second wife (Agorita Lilly), siblings Ken and Barb and is survived by his three sons Michael, Bruce and Christopher, plus grandchildren Tom, Mary, Colson and Owen. In accord with Dad’s wishes there will be no service. We thank the good people at St Jude’s for his recent care and anyone so inclined is enthusiastically encouraged to donate to SJ’s registered charity.
