It is with a profound sense of loss that we share the passing of Jack Berg on July 7th, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. He will be forever missed by all who were privileged to know him. He was deeply loved and is survived by his wife of 70 years and the love of his life, Wanda, his children, Brian (Audrey), Carol (Ron) and Dave (Helen), his grandchildren, Gary, Trevor, Suzanne and Stuart and his great-granddaughter Mila. He is also survived by his sisters Leona, Pauline and Eleanor, and many nieces and nephews. Sadly, his brother Ray predeceased him by a week.
Jack grew up in Vancouver in a large family and met Wanda through his sister Pauline and the two began their life together, eventually moving into the family home in Burnaby. He began work on tugboats, but his true passion was as a Vancouver Firefighter where he enjoyed a thirty-three year career before retiring as Assistant Chief. Jack and Wanda enjoyed traveling and spent many happy days in Hawaii and cruising the world. The two also enjoyed playing tennis, though we are not sure Wanda ever let him win.
Jack was always ready to lend a hand, was humble and kind, and anyone who knew him was richer for the experience. We will all miss him greatly but smile as we remember him for the remarkable husband, father, grandfather, and man that he was.
“No man is really gone until the ripples they caused in the world pass away.”
In lieu of flowers in memory of Jack, please consider the Burnaby Hospital Foundation.
A Celebration of Life for Jack will be held August 21st at 2pm at the Burnaby Lake Rowing Pavilion (6871 Roberts St, Burnaby, BC).
