John Bernard “Bernie” Crick passed away peacefully August 12, 2021 in Vancouver. Survived by wife Gertrud “Trudy” and daughters Carolyn (Kirk, son Mitchell), Kathleen (David, daughters Alexandra & Emmaline), Bernice (Tony), and Cynthia (Ted).

Born in 1929 in Liverpool, England, Bernie was nine years old when he and two of his siblings were evacuated to Aberystwyth, Wales. He maintained a lifelong friendship with the family he was billeted with. As a child, it was an adventure to him and a happy, carefree time. He joined the Scouts, took piano lessons, and had his first job at the tender age of ten at a haberdashery. An avid camper and hiker in his youth, Bernie camped almost every weekend.

Bernie felt the pull of adventure when he joined the army in 1948, serving in SE Asia for two years, later emigrating to Canada in 1953 where he thoroughly enjoyed working on a dairy farm in Oshawa, ON. Settling in Vancouver, BC in 1955, Bernie joined the customs broker firm Davidson & Sons until his retirement in 1993. Shortly after arriving in Vancouver, he met and married his partner in life, Trudy. He was a devoted father and later grandfather to their four daughters and three grandchildren.

Always first on the dancefloor, Bernie loved to socialize, ready anytime for a dance with Trudy, even into the last years of his life. Bernie was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish for many years. He was a fixture as an usher at 10 AM mass, had many friends, and was instrumental in getting the Parish Centre built.

Heartfelt thanks to the care givers who looked after Bernie so well and the staff at Tapestry.
