It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jobriath Barbour, a proud member of the Berens River Band (Manitoba), passed away at his home in Vancouver on February 23rd, 2023, at the young age of 42. Born on October 19th, 1980, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jobriath was a man who held his culture and heritage in the highest regard, always striving to preserve and promote the traditions and values of his people. His unwavering commitment to his community and passion for his heritage earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
Jobriath's love for his family knew no bounds. His dedication to his wife Miki Barbour and son Brandon Barbour was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment he spent with them. His kind and gentle nature touched the lives of all those around him, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Beyond his work as an activist and cultural ambassador, Jobriath was a man of many talents. He was a skilled DJ who shared his passion for music with his community, bringing joy and happiness to everyone he played for.
Despite his many accomplishments, Jobriath remained humble and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His generosity and selflessness were a testament to his character, and he will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.
A Ceremony of Life will be held in honor of Jobriath on March 11th, 2023 at 11am until 1pm for viewing and from 1pm until 2pm for the service, at Kearney Funeral Homes, located at 450 West 2nd Avenue in Vancouver, BC, V5Y 1E2 (https://goo.gl/maps/zuWPPLoKSxgW4epx9).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to True North Aid , an organization that was near and dear to Jobriath's heart.
Jobriath is predeceased by his father Ronald Barry Barbour and survived by his wife Miki Barbour, his son Brandon Barbour. Our hearts go out to Jobriath's family and friends during this difficult time. We find solace in knowing that Jobriath's legacy will continue to live on through his family and the community that he loved so dearly. May he rest in peace.
