It is with profound sorrow that the family of Jeff Joudrey announces his sudden and unexpected passing on April 22, 2021, at his home in Vancouver, B.C. Born in Lunenburg, NS on November 12, 1967, to parents Douglas and Sharyn Joudrey, Jeff spent his very early years in the Mahone Bay area. Jeff’s family relocated to Alberta in 1970 when Doug accepted employment with the Alberta Forest Service. Jeff grew up in Edson, Alberta. Edson was a small rural town and Jeff developed a love of the great outdoors growing up there.
Jeff graduated from Edson High School in 1985 and continued his education at Lethbridge University for 2 years, before transferring to the University of British Columbia where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. He later transferred to Victoria, BC where he obtained his Bachelor of Law Degree and continued in this field for the remainder of his career.
Jeff was an incredibly smart, accomplished, and passionate lawyer. As one of the founding members of Pacific Law Group in 2006, he was an integral member of the team for the past 15 years. During his long career as a lawyer, he was involved with many precedent-setting cases in personal injury. He was a persuasive, articulate advocate, with a quick wit and an easy grasp of complex legal and medical concepts. His considerable memory enabled him to rattle off paragraph and page number references for propositions in case law with apparent ease. Jeff appeared as counsel in a great many trials and appeals, and his advice was frequently sought out on many aspects of the law and practice by clients and colleagues.
Outside of law, Jeff was a great lover of cats, hockey, video games, fishing, politics, hunting, horticulture, and music. He was an accomplished drummer in various bands, including with his father’s band in Edson when he was growing up. With his philosophy background, Jeff was never at a loss for words or an interesting perspective on all conceivable topics. He had an infectious laugh, a wonderful wit, and a wide circle of devoted friends, family, and colleagues who are terribly saddened by his loss. With his love of cats, it is unsurprising that he embraced stray people too and provided unconditional support to many.
Jeff is survived by his loving parents, Doug and Sharyn Joudrey, siblings Allan and Kylie, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins on both the east coast and the west. He was predeceased by grandparents Norman and Pearl Joudrey, Allan, and Dora Morash. A bright light in our life has been extinguished, but he will never be forgotten.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kearney Funeral Services, Burnaby, BC. Cremation has taken place, and Interment will be scheduled for a family gathering at Garden of Rest Cemetery in Blockhouse, NS. at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting the Kearney Burnaby Chapel website: www.kearneyfs.com .
Memorial donations may be made for any local Vancouver Humane Society and SPCA in honour of Jeff’s love for cats.
