Jeanne Sloan / Jean D’Arc Sloan (nee Roy) aged 89 years passed away peacefully at Magnolia Gardens on February 7,2025 after a hard battle with cancer.
Jeanne was born February 23, 1935, to Lauria Martin and Leo Roy in Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan. She was the fourth of ten children. At only 20 years of age, she moved to BC, where she remained.
She met Oscar Cayer and got married in 1958. This marriage ended in divorce and left her a single mom. She met Robert Sloan in 1979, and they were married in 1989.
She worked in her youth as a chairside dental assistant before spending time home raising her family. As a single mom she went to work at the Sears warehouse in Burnaby and finally as an in-home care-aid, a job she loved and took great pride in.
She is survived by her daughters Elaine (Blaine) & Adele (Tim), grandchildren Alexander, Deja & Jay, brothers, Bernard, Robert, Albert, Gerard, Richard and sister Marguerite Broten. She is loved by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her second husband Bob, father Leo, mother Lauria, brothers, Henri, Raoul and Lucien.
Jeanne's family was her heart, and she loved each of them dearly. Mom's kindness reached far beyond family, and she always had an open door and beautiful home-cooked meal for anyone. She was a great cook and excelled at baking and created many family favourites such as pies, cakes, loafs and cookies. She also made delicious, pickled vegetables and jams.
Jeanne lived in her own home in Coquitlam for 49 years before moving to Astoria Retirement Residence in Port Coquitlam in 2015. She made many long-term friendships there. In 2024 she moved to Magnolia Gardens in Langley. Although she wasn’t at Magnolia Gardens long, she showed her kindness and humour and made more friendships.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. She very generously shared her time and love with anyone that needed her. We will miss her sense of humour and her feisty manner.
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Magnolia Gardens for their warmth, kindness and amazing care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Agency.
