It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Marion Patton (nee Turriff) early Sunday morning, April 21, 2024.
Jean was born on August 20th, 1928, in Scotland – one of five children of Robert Turriff and Elizabeth McVittie. In her little village, she attended the local kirk where she began a life of faith in Christ.
After the war had ended, in 1949, her spirit of adventure led her to travel on her own across the Atlantic by ship and then gradually to make her way across Canada until she arrived in Vancouver. In Vancouver, she took a job at BC Tel and quickly rose through the company to become the EA to the president of the company.
Her brother Alex visited her in BC where he met a man from Belfast – Wilfred Ernest Patton. Alex knew this man was right for his much-loved little sister. He introduced them and they married in 1958. Since then, she has focused on her family and faith.
Jean lived a life of quiet, compassionate service and was a loyal, kind and reliable friend to many. She was an example of strength and resilience. She had an open heart and open mind and sought to find and foster the best in others.
She is predeceased by her siblings – Mae, Alex, Isobel, and Robert – and by her husband, Ernie, and her son, Eric.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara, Pamela, and Sheila, her son-in-law Jeff, and two grandchildren, Claire and Owen – all of whom are unspeakably grateful to her for her love and care, and for the joy that she carefully cultured in our hearts.
