Janet was born on Dec 5, 1947 in Cardiff, Wales to Ralph and Elsie Hughes. She was predeceased by her birth mother, Elsie (Watkins) Hughes June 1950, in Pontlanfraith, Wales, father, Ralph Hughes (November 2008), in Vancouver BC, and stepmother, Gertrude Hughes (February 2011) in Vancouver, BC.

Janet leaves behind her loving husband, John, of 52 years, her daughter, Theresa, born in November 1972, and son, Jeremy, born in December 1974 (Erin), her three grandchildren, Andrew (TJ), Ainsleigh and Jasper, and many cousins, in both the UK and Australia.  Janet also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Marian Harvie (Jacques Fortin) and many nieces and nephews in Montreal.

Janet and her dad, Ralph, started a new chapter in their lives when they emigrated from England to Canada June 18, 1953, and settled in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver, BC, where Ralph met Gertrude. Janet attended school at St. Augustine's Elementary, in Vancouver, BC, Little Flower Academy, in Vancouver BC, and Notre Dame University in Nelson, BC.

Janet met John at a dance at Notre Dame University in September 1967, and got engaged on December24,1969, and were married August 7, 1971. They lived in Vancouver till the Summer of 1976, moving to Surrey.

Janet was a Stay-at-home mom till 1983. She was an avid sewer and dressmaker. In 1983, Janet started working part time at Just Petites/lrene Hill (which later became Cleo). After leaving Cleo, Janet started working for Fabricana lmports, and worked until retiring in 2008.

Janet loved to go to Mexico, starting in 2013, going twice a year as she would accompany John, in the spring, for his birthday, and in November, accompanying her daughter, Theresa, for her birthday, having been to both Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan!
