Jamie Boughen

May 30, 1951 — January 17, 2025

Vancouver

It is with great sadness that Jamie took his last breath with his wife of 32 years, Jennifer by his side after health struggles over the last couple of years. Predeceased by his Mum and Dad, Mary & Jim Boughen and sister-in-law, Jane Carson, Jamie leaves behind his treasured children, son Daimien Boughen (Barbara Strougal) and grandchildren, Verana, Thorin & Daison along with Michael, Alexander & Ilys and daughter Wendy Boughen-Brass and grandchildren, Skylar, Aurora & Willow. Being the eldest of 6 boys, he is also survived by his buddies and confidantes, the Boughen Boys – Bruce (Darlene), Tim (Shirley), Dan, Tony and Nick (Vicki) along with many nephews and nieces. He so valued his friends, Nancy Reimer & his bestie, Graham Bompas (deceased) and we are certain that the two of them are into mischief together again! Equally valued are friends, Marian & Ross Plewman, Laurie McLeod, Bill Hodson, Susie Manning and many others.

Jamie was a complex man with an intense thirst for knowledge on a myriad of subjects but especially loved ancient history, geography, astronomy. He had a great love of music and had very eclectic taste from Sidney Bechet to Chopin to Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to Eric Clapton. Coming from a musical family, he loved to ‘jam’ with his harp and was very good at it even belonging to a local band, The Hands Up Band in Victoria in the 70’s. Jamie loved cats and ‘button nosed’ dogs and always said they were his kindred spirits. He worked hard all his life but physical labour eventually took its toll and he had been struggling with his mobility & health issues but that did not deter his sense of humour, ever present stubborn streak, cheeky outlook and loved of all things beautiful like an amazing sunset, the sound of waves on the beach and the phases of the moon. He leaves us with beautiful examples of his artwork that have a unique style that is his very own.

His passing has created a huge void for all those near and dear. He specifically requested cremation and no service, but his family and friends will be holding a Celebration of Life at a later date. While Jamie did not specify, Jennifer asks if you would like to make a donation in his memory, to perhaps consider Heart & Stroke BC or St. Paul’s Foundation. And definitely listen to some music that he loved and remember him fondly!
