Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, James (Jim) Vincent Slater passed away peacefully at his home in North Vancouver on Saturday November 10th at age 86. Jim will be deeply missed by his wife Isabel, children; Anne Marie, John (Deborah) and Julie Anne, grandchildren; Michael (Jamie), Andrew, Mark and Maya-Roisin and great-grandchildren Nathan and Brody. He is also survived by his sister Maureen (Robert) and his Irish Scottish family in the U.K. and Australia along with his many nephews and nieces who adored his humour and musical gifts.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland Jim emigrated to Canada in October 1967 with his wife Isabel, daughter Anne Marie and son John. Soon after moving, Jim and Isabel were blessed with their first Canadian daughter, Julie.

Jim worked as a horticulturist at the University of British Columbia, a Manager of Recreation Parks & Culture for City of Coquitlam and finished his career as Superintendent – Parks, Planning and Development for the District of North Vancouver.

A man of many talents, James dedicated much of his free time to the arts, performing in opera in his younger days and playing the violin. A devout Catholic, he spent many years involved in charity work with the Knights of Columbus, fundraising for various causes and playing music at hospices to cheer up those in recovery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father John Horgan on Saturday November 17th at 12:30PM in the Saint Pius X Parish, 1150 Mount Seymour Rd, North Vancouver, BC. There will be a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following the Mass. We invite you to share some memories honouring Jim’s vibrant life with those who love him most.
