Jack Loretto
August 29th, 1928- November 12th, 2018
Jack passed away peacefully November 12th, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital Langara.
He is now united with his loving wife Zena of 54 years and his grandson Michael.  He is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his son Peter (Tanya), grandchildren David and Nicola.  He will also be missed by his brother Gary and other family members and friends.
Jack was born in Vancouver General Hospital to Peter and Katie.  He lived most of his life in the Lower Mainland with a brief hiatus in Pioneer, B.C. and also several decades in Kelowna ( 1955-1972).
Jack was an all-round athlete- he was on the basketball and track and field teams throughout his high school years at Trapp Tech ( New Westminster). He received a basketball scholarship to an American college that he turned down! An injury prevented his participation in the high jump event at the 1945 Pan-American games. He continued to do sports throughout his life and jogged until he was 80 years old.
Jack spent most of his career in sales- in particular, selling hardware even though Zena often claimed that he could sell the products but didn’t necessarily know how to use them himself.  Most of his career was spent at Sears and smaller hardware stores.
Jack was a shy man of great intelligence. He loved his family, gambling at the horse races, ( especially at the Fraser Downs harness race track in Cloverdale) also exhibition park with all his friends and spending time at the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel. He will be remembered especially for his humour, honesty and his devoted caregiving to Zena in her later years.
Services and internment will be privately held.
In lieu  of flowers donations can be made to Power of Education Africa Foundation ( https://poea.ca) will be gratefully accepted.
