He will be remembered with much love by his seven children and their spouses: Chris Wilson, Miriam and Tom Jones, Mary-Anne and Doug Beattie, Kevin and Patricia Wilson, Ian and Carol Wilson, Marilyn and Gareth Gammon, and Karen and Mike Piilo; and his grandchildren and their families: Jessica, Alan, Avery, Tegan and AJ Kaarsemaker, Heather, Darren and Dominic Chan, Allison Beattie, Angela Wilson, Kevin A. Wilson, and Joshua Wilson, and Jennine, Aron, Kaylie and Aidan Laine, Kristen Beck, and Alycia Beck.

Ian was born in Vancouver, B.C. on April 11, 1931 and was the youngest of four children. He lived in the Lower Mainland all his life. He loved to drive throughout the area discussing the original landmarks and buildings and how the city had changed. An adjuster for Furnace Oil, then a contractor for Western Parcel Service, Ian eventually owned and operated his own trucking business, Trans Delta Express. An avid soccer player, Ian met the love of his life, Catherine Calder who had moved here from Alberta. They were married on November 5, 1955 at Holy Name Church and remained deeply in love and devoted to each other and God all their lives. They first lived in Vancouver and then moved to North Delta where they raised their large family. Ian was a wonderful father committed to his family and actively involved in their lives. He often had a very hectic schedule trying to get all seven to sports practices and other activities. His children all inherited his love of reading and lively discussion. Throughout his life, Ian considered his family to be his legacy and he was happiest when he was surrounded by them.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful care teams at Delta View Enrichment Centre for the gentle care and support they provided during the last years of his life. A Prayer Service for Ian will be held on Wednesday, December 5th at 8:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in North Delta, where a Funeral Mass will also take place on Thursday, December 6th, at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Gardens of Gethsemani at 12:30 p.m. will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the BC Kidney Foundation or to BC Diabetes in memory of Ian.
