Hudson Edwin Naylor passed away peacefully, into the presence of the Lord on July 1st, 2024, at the age of 33 with family at his side.
He was born on December 11, 1990, to Lance Edwin Naylor and Debbie Hoffmann in Kamloops, B.C. After graduating from Sahali Senior Secondary in 2008, he enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at Thompson Rivers University on a basketball scholarship.
In the following years, Hudson joined Youth with a Mission (YWAM) in 2011 and 2012, traveling on mission trips to Hawaii, China, and North Korea. Upon his return from YWAM, Hudson transferred to Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford, B.C., on a basketball scholarship, playing for the Columbia Bearcats. He graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in religious studies. Hudson funded his schooling by planting close to a million trees over a seven year period. Realizing that his body was taking a beating, he discovered the joy of working with children at OLPH. As a result, Hudson enrolled at UBC where he was working toward a teaching degree.
In August 2016, Hudson was first diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. A second craniotomy in January 2017 confirmed the cancer was spreading. Over the next eight years, Hudson received multiple medical treatments, ultimately succumbing to his final days at St. John Hospice in Vancouver.
In December 2022, when Hudson was told he had only a few months left to live, he decided to walk the Camino pilgrimage. Stretching from southern France across the north of Spain in February and March of 2023, Hudson walked a total of 820 kilometers. It was a memorable and challenging feat, which God enabled Hudson, his dad, his mom, and his sister to participate in together. This is a memory his family will cherish forever. The miracle of the Camino gave Hudson renewed hope and courage to fight for more time. Even up to his last breath, Hudson never gave up; trusting God could heal him or call him home.
Hudson’s life has been a visual of a good and faithful man, exemplifying unwavering determination, perseverance, courage, and bravery. He was loved as a son, a brother, a nephew, and a friend— he left a beautiful legacy.
We are grateful God gave him into our family.
