It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our much loved father Reg in his 93rd year.
Predeceased by his wife, Marcella; his sister, Jean; and brother, Donny. Reg is survived by his children, Wendy (Neil), David, Mary (Jason); his grandchildren, Emma, Jamie, Cicely and Michael; and many extended family.
Dad was born at the Bute Street Hospital on Robson Street, Vancouver, on September 23, 1923. He lived his childhood years on his family's farm at 47th and Granville, and graduated from Magee High School in 1942.
During WWII, Dad served with the Royal Canadian Artillery Survey, and then with Canadian Provost Corps in the military police. After his service, Dad returned to Vancouver and graduated from UBC Engineering with Honours in 1949.
He worked with Canadian Forest Products, articled with the BC Land Surveyors, and then went on to work at Dawson Construction where he spent the majority of his career and was VP Engineering. Dad was involved with countless BC infrastructure projects such as bridges, dams, tunnels, airports, and highways and he also held several directorship roles.
In 1960, Reg married Marcella Indra and they had three children together, Wendy, David and Mary. He brought up his family in Vancouver not far from where he had grown up.
During retirement, Dad was involved with the family business, Christie’s Antiques, as well as being a domestic arbitrator with the BC International Communication Arbitration Centre.
Reg was an avid gardener and enjoyed family history. He made friends wherever he went, just like the wonderful friendships he made where he lived at Honoria Conway Assisted Living. He had a kind and easy nature and could always deliver a joke perfectly. He will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, his tenacity to overcome hardships and his great smile.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at St. John's Hospice at UBC who took care of Dad in his final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Hospice or the BC Lung Association.
