On Monday, July 8, 2019, Helen Koscielski (née Kozakiewicz), loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away in Vancouver at the age of 93. Helen was born on September 30, 1925, in Dawyd-Horodok, Belarus. Helen survived exceptional hardships during WW2, then bravely immigrated to Canada alone as a young woman in 1948. She settled in Vancouver. Shortly thereafter, she fell in love with and married Kazimierz Koscielski, and they raised two sons.
Helen was strongly devoted to her family above all else. She spent much of her life creating a loving environment for everyone. She was a very loyal friend. She was not only a talented seamstress, but an excellent knitter, cook, and homemaker. She will be remembered as a strong, independent, tireless, generous and hardworking woman. She had a good sense of humour, and strongly adhered to her values. Helen will be sorely missed.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Kazimierz in May 1989. She is survived by her sons Jack and Ken (Debbie), grandchildren Yolanda, James (Leah), and Kathleen (Leigh), and great-grandchildren Chloe, Adam, Tyson, Emma and Roman.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, 2019, at St. Casimir`s Polish Parish, 1187 East 27th Ave, Vancouver, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to ASK Friendship Centre (http://askcentre.ca/donate-to-ask/) in Helen’s name would be greatly appreciated.
