It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful mom, grandmother, aunt and lifelong friend, Hazel Jamen. She was reunited with her loving husband George on Monday, January 11th, 2021, at the age of 84.

She was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy – a rare, incurable neurodegenerative disease. Hazel battled the disease for three years with unbelievable resolve, courage and grace.

She valued her independence and was determined to maintain her healthy lifestyle, enjoying her love of walking, even when it became a challenge. Hazel also had a passion for curling and was part of a team that won the BC Senior Women’s Championship in 1989. Although she no longer curled, she still loved to be a passionate spectator!

Hazel was an avid gardener and gourmet vegan cook. She followed a plant-based diet for many years before it became mainstream. After moving to Vancouver, she became, in her words “addicted to the local organic farmer’s markets.” Hazel had a flare for fashion, design and style. She loved to shop and was always impeccably dressed and beautiful.

Hazel’s children Mona and Merle, and grandchildren Jenny (Dylan) and George were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of her independent spirit, passion for the outdoors, love of food and zest for life will live on through them.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
