The beautiful and infinitely gracious Gloria Scavazza slipped away peacefully on Sunday, May 22nd at the age of ninety-six.

She was predeceased by her husband of twenty-eight years, Giovanni Francesco Scavazza, her beloved Johnny.

Gloria was known as Auntie G to all who loved her, and there were many; among them her stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and finally great greats.

She grew up on Commercial Drive, in the heart of her Italian heritage, through almost a century of change. As an accounts manager for Shores Jewellers she travelled for work at a time when it was very much a man’s world. She and Giovanni enjoyed travelling together and went on many memorable trips. On the home front Gloria and Johnny loved to go out dancing on a Friday night. Gloria was a gifted cook. There was always a pot of delicious and comforting pasta on the stove for anyone who turned up at her table.

Gloria was a huge fan of animals, in all stripes and colours, especially cats. She was a generous supporter of many charities including Children’s Hospital and the SPCA.

Hers was a life well lived, full of love, kindness, and compassion for everyone. In turn, she was loved by family and friends, respected in her church and community, and truly admired by all who encountered her. She had a strong and enduring Catholic faith and turned to St. Anthony in her prayers. Auntie G will reside in our hearts forever.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Parish (2025 Napier Street, Vancouver) on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 10:00 am followed by interment of cremated remains at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
