Gertrud “Trudy” Crick (née Kascha) passed away peacefully in Vancouver on February 12, 2024 surrounded by family. Pre-deceased by her beloved husband Bernie in 2021, she is survived by daughters Carolyn (Kirk, son Mitchell), Kathleen (David, daughters Alexandra & Emmaline), Bernice (Tony), and Cynthia (Ted).
Born in 1927 in Germany, Trudy was the last of her six siblings to pass away. Raised in the family inn and restaurant, Trudy was a great baker already in her teens and was proud of the praise from the local baker. Due to war, she left home at a young age, eventually following her sister Edith in immigrating first to England and then in 1954 to Canada.
In Vancouver, Trudy met and married her love, Bernie. They enjoyed many years together dancing, gardening, entertaining, skiing with the children, and attending VSO concerts. A skilled seamstress, Trudy worked in tailoring for a time and also sewed wonderful clothing for herself and daughters. Ever sociable, Trudy was an excellent cook who loved to host dinner parties with Bernie. As a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Parish, for years she was active in their many charitable causes.
In her last years, Trudy delighted in singing to the birds and was enchanted by the hummingbirds at her balcony feeder. On sunny days she had fun exploring the neighbourhood on her scooter.
The Crick family is grateful to the dedicated caregivers who provided Trudy with such great care and companionship. Heartfelt thanks also to the staff of Tapestry.
Funeral Mass 11 AM March 12, Immaculate Conception Parish, 3778 W 28 Ave Vancouver.
