On May 13, 2010 at Royal Columbian, George slipped away from this world with his wife Elaine at his side, to be with his Lord, after
a brief battle with cancer. He fought the disease on his own terms, as those who know him can attest to was his usual way. He had made his peace with dying; leaving to grieve his too-soon departure are his wife of 33 years Elaine and his loving children Erik and Hanna, his dog Moe as well as others who knew him. George was born in Brno Czechoslovakia August 1946, to parents Vojtech and Jarmila, both deceased.
He came to Canada in 1968 with one suitcase to have a taste of life in the west after the army, and apprenticing at welding. He was a meticulous tradesman. Hardwork was his middle name, whether it was at work or investing, at home building, fixing or gardening. Owning acreage in the valley was his dream come true, where he spent many weekends, often with Erik, cutting trees, digging in fruit trees or berry bushes and a myriad of other tasty plants. He took up bee keeping for his retirement, joining the Langley Bee Club. We shall try to carry on for him. He was looking forward to retirement with time to do as he pleased. Sadly for him and for those who miss him with an ache in our hearts, it was not to be. He leaves behind his wife and children, in laws Bjorghild and Don,sister in law Betty (Bob) niece Sarah (Tyler).
In Czech Republic are his brother and sisters, sister in law, nieces, nephews, cousins et al. George did not mince words, said what he thought and that was that but he was a loving dad and husband. He built a secure base for his family and nurtured a love of the land that especially Erik, and Hanna, share today. He loved the Lord and believed firmly in the following words from Rev 21:3-5.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold,
the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with
them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall
be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away
all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death,
neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more
pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that
sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And
he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and
faithful.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cancer Society or Canadian Wildlife Federation in George’s name would be appreciated.
