George passed away peacefully, following a brief illness, with family at his side on May 23 at Royal Columbian Hospital at the age of 72 years. He was predeceased by his wife Pat High and his parents Bill and Mary High of Cumberland, BC. He is survived by his children Shauneen High of Vancouver and Jason (Judy) High of Vancouver and his two cherished grandsons Evan and Ian. He also leaves to mourn his passing his two brothers, Jim of Port Coquitlam and Lorne (Wendy) of Cumberland and their families and his friends and former wife, Norma Nicoll of Surrey. George spent his adult life saving others as a paramedic. He started his career with Metropolitan Ambulance in the 1960s and later with BC Ambulance Service. George was a graduate of the first Advanced Life Support training class in BC which was run at RCH by the emergency physicians and staff. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Ambulance Employees Union and served as its first Vice President. George served many positions with the Ambulance Services including instructor and Unit Chief. He also volunteered as coordinator and instructor for First Aid Competitions primarily with BC Telephone teams. George was a kind and generous father and husband and a very respected member of the BC Ambulance Service. Many colleagues and friends will mourn his passing. Memorial Service will be held at Queen’s Avenue United Church, 529 6th Avenue New Westminster, B.C. on Wednesday June 6th at 1:30.
