Fujio Fukuyama died peacefully at home on November 16, 2009 at the age of 88. The eldest child of Senkichi and Yayeko Fukuyama, Fujio was born in Vancouver on September 23, 1921.  Predeceased by his parents, sister Chiyeko Fujisawa and brother George Fukuyama, Fujio is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret, his daughters, Esther, Katherine (Bruce), Marie (Bill), his grandchildren, James, Caitlin, Michelle, and Andrew, his brother, Sus (Dorothy) and numerous nephews and nieces throughout Canada and the United States.
Fujio loved golf, football (both college and the NFL), cars, appreciated jazz, fine food, and wine.  He was a voracious reader with a curiosity in all things and a keen interest in world and current affairs, language, history and geography.  He and Margaret travelled extensively around the world. .  He graduated in economics from Keio University in 1946 and returned to Vancouver in 1956. He  worked for the Japanese Consulate in Vancouver for several years and in 1972 succeeded  his father Senkichi to continue  a  90 year family business presence in the BC coastal fish processing industry with his last business trip to Japan just a few years ago.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2009, 10:30 am at Ryerson United Church, 2195 West 45th Avenue (45th & Yew). There will be a viewing before the service, starting at 10:00 am.
Memorial donations may be made to the BC Cancer Agency or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
