It is with full hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Franco Canale, at the age of 68. He died peacefully at the Langley Hospice due to advanced cancer on the afternoon of July 26, 2019.

Born in Cervaro, Italy, on November 4, 1950, Franco immigrated to Canada in 1956. His childhood years were spent with his family in East Vancouver, later moving to his beloved family home in North Burnaby. After graduating from Templeton Secondary School, he completed his degree in Commerce from UBC. Enjoying a varied career, Franco worked most notably as a teacher, photographer and professional realtor.

Franco will always be remembered for his creativity, compassion, ingenuity, and hospitality. Always eager to host his friends and family, he enjoyed sharing his love of gardening, cooking, and healthy living with all that would listen. Cycling, camping, and fishing were also some of his favourite activities throughout his life.

Through prayer, love, and perseverance, Franco was an example to many. Despite surviving kidney cancer, and living with Parkinson’s disease for 20 years, his strength and determination proved him to be a seemingly unstoppable individual. A true family man, Franco loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Franco is survived by his wife of 36 years, Irene; his brother, Elio; his seven children: Cecilia (Al), Benedict (Chelsea), Veronica (Kevin), Thomas (Mariam), Lucas, Regina, and Jacob; three grandchildren: Aria, Theo and Lina; as well as his aunt, Maria Coletta. He was predeceased by his parents, Giovanni and Filomena; his infant daughter, Jacinta Gianna; and his aunt, Anna Armano.

The family wishes to thank Lanita, his primary caregiver in the last few weeks of his life for her loyal, caring support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm, Tuesday, July 30, at Sts. Joachim and Ann Parish (2827 - 273rd Street, Aldergrove). Following the Mass, Franco will be laid to rest at Gardens of Gethsemani Cemetery (15694 32 Ave, Surrey).
