Reverend Father Terrence Larkin (86) of Vancouver died peacefully on September 10, 2024. He was born on November 20th 1937 in Seattle, Washington State to parents James Larkin and Katherine Epley. He is survived by eldest brother Jim Larkin & his wife Louise (Boise Idaho) and younger brother Michael Larkin (Hemet, California).
He attended St. John’s Seminary in Carrillo, California and St. Joseph’s Seminary in Edmonton Alberta. He was a priest of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver.
In 1973, Rev. Larkin was appointed assistant pastor to St. Joseph’s Parish in Powell River after devoted work at Grocio Prado in Peru. In 1980 he was appointed Spiritual Director to Faith and Light Organization. In July 1980, he was appointed as Pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish in Vancouver as he had empathy with the Filipino people. In 1993, Father Larkin was appointed Pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in North Vancouver. In January 2003, he was elected by the deanery to be a member of the Presbyteral Council. In November 2003, Father Terry was appointed the dean (vicar forane) of the North Shore Deanery in promoting concerted pastoral action and ensuring the welfare of priests in the deanery. In May 2015, Father was appointed Pastor of Precious Blood Parish in Surrey. In April 2006, he was the Associate Pastor of Good Shepherd Parish in South Surrey and in June 2016, he was appointed as Assistant Pastor of Holy Rosary Cathedral Parish, Vancouver.
Father Terry’s education included post secondary undergraduate from Santa Monica City College, Santa Monica, California in Liberal Arts. Continuing education in Vancouver Community College (Community Counselling Certificate in First Response Intervention Addictions), St. Mark’s College UNC in Pastoral Counselling, Pastoral Theology, Simon Fraser University in Gerontology, Immigrant Society of BC in Welcome and Settlement Trainings, BC Centre for Elderly Advocacy and Support in Seniors Abuse and Information Line Training and Archdiocese of Vancouver Office of Social Justice in Pastoral Care of Migrants Training.
Prayers will be held for Father Larkin on Tuesday, September 24th at 7:00pm at Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver. The next day, a service will be held at 10:30 am at the same cathedral. As a priest of the church for 58 years, he will then be laid to rest in Gardens of Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery.
