We are sad to announce that Jane passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2022, in the presence of her family, after a courageous 8-year battle with abdominal cancer.

She is survived by her loving husband Donald G Lockhart, and her three children Maureen, Jim (Leanne Sexsmith) and Joe (Dawn Thomas) Girard.  Also, four wonderful grandchildren, Taya, Jordan, Ella, and Mitchell.

She was born the fourth of six siblings to her Vancouver born parents, Phil and Eve Hume, who along with her first husband of 36 years, Paul Girard, have predeceased her, as have four siblings, Phillip Hume, Jacqueline Brisby, Nancy Nyte, and Mary McCarles.  Jane is also survived by her youngest brother Tony Hume (Ruth) as well as many wonderful in-laws, nieces and nephews (who were all “her favorites”).

She graduated from West Vancouver High School and then St. Paul’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1962.  Jane lived for several years in Coquitlam prior to moving to Salt Spring Island in 1990. After the death of her first husband, she moved back to the South Surrey area in 2004 where she made many friends, loved her “church Groups”, loved to play bridge, volunteered, was a loyal Canuck fan, and met (on an airplane in 2011) and married Donald Lockhart.

They loved to travel and were fortunate to do many trips together.  She also fondly remembers all her “old” friends of the class of ’59 WVHS.  She loved to send out anonymous ’kindness’ notes to those who were good people.

Jane’s dying wish was to be remembered for her faith in God, and for her love of family and the great country where she was born.

Memorial Mass will be at Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 1:00pm on Thursday, August 25th, 2022 (2250 150th St, Surrey, BC).  Rev. Mark Gazin, Celebrant.

No flowers by request, although should you wish, donations to the Terry Fox fund or your favorite charity would be welcome.  Or….at Jane’s request…. Do a random act of kindness.
