Roets, Emmanuel Andrew passed away suddenly on October 5 in Vancouver at the age of 69. Predeceased by his loving wife Ellen. He will be lovingly remembered by his five children Dawn (Anthony), Cedric (Pam), Wendy, Roderick, Andrew and seven grandchildren Elyse, Justin, Jonathan, Christopher, Keira, Rachel and Justin.  He was born in South Africa and moved to Vancouver to marry his beloved Ellen.  The family lived in West Vancouver for several years before moving to Greenwood B.C.  While residing in this city, he served as an alderman for one term and mayor for two terms. After his wife’s passing, he assumed her role by making chutney for his family.  Chutney, amongst other food items, is a great family tradition.  After leaving Greenwood, he settled in Vancouver, where he could enjoy spending his retirement years with family. He had a tremendous passion for reading.  Throughout his life, his spirituality evolved and grew in his journey to enlightenment. He will be truly missed by all of us and will always be remembered as a father, uncle, and goong-goong.

Always Near as You Walk Along the Lakeshore
And I am no longer with you
Let no tears fall or sorrow prevail
When you see your reflection shimmer in the water
Smile and know that I see your smile
When you feel the cool grass beneath your feet
And the sun’s warmth upon your back
Know that I feel it also
When you hear the leaves rustling in the wind
Know it is my voice softly whispering to you
When you see a butterfly dancing among flowers
Know that I am dancing also
When you gently touch a kitten’s soft fur
Know that I too feel your touch
When the wind swirls across your skin
Know that it is I who caresses you
When you love another
Know that I too feel your love
